HELP Team Responsibility

Community Response

These are the roles and responsibilities of the HELP Team, when responding to a Tragic Incident within the Walpole Island community.
HELP Team Leader will:

  • Activate response by notifying appropriate HELP Team members based on availability and identified needs
  • Ensure there are more than two HELP Team members responding to an incident
  • Act as a liaison between Emergency Response Personnel and community member(s) involved or related to the Tragic Event
  • Ensure that all HELP Team members are fulfilling roles and responsibilities
  • Organize all team members to respond to the crisis
  • Delegate specific tasks to gather pertinent information pertaining to the Tragic Event
  • Complete the Crisis Report after all responsibilities have been accomplished
  • Make appropriate arrangements for HELP Team members’ debriefing
  • Conduct a follow-up with affected community members
  • Conduct an evaluation of the response
HELP Team Members will:

  • Report directly to HELP Team leader and take directions
  • Respond and work with groups and individuals as needed
  • Plan intervention strategies appropriate to the Tragic Event
  • Provide appropriate resource material and suggestions for individuals involved
  • Provide resources and suggestions for follow-up counselling, if needed

School Response

These are the roles and responsibilities of the HELP Team, when responding to a Tragic Incident at the Walpole Island Elementary School, Bkejwanong Children’s Centre and Wallaceburg District Secondary School.

HELP Team Leader will:

  • Activate response, by notifying appropriate HELP Team members based on availability and identified needs
  • Report directly to Principal or Elementary Coordinator
  • Ensure there are more than two HELP Team members responding to an incident
  • Ensure that all pertinent people are fulfilling roles and responsibilities
  • Organize all team members to respond to the crisis
  • Delegate specific tasks to gather pertinent information pertaining to the tragic event
  • Keep the Principal and Elementary Coordinator informed of all HELP Team activities
  • Make appropriate arrangements for HELP Team debriefing
  • Conduct a follow-up with affected staff and students
  • Conduct an evaluation of the response
HELP Team Members will:

  • Report directly to HELP Team leader and take directions
  • Respond and work with groups and individuals as needed
  • Plan intervention strategies appropriate to the tragic event
  • Provide resource material and suggestions for follow-up classroom activities
  • Provide resources and suggestions for follow-up counselling, if needed
